In Roskilde

Work life balance

The Risø Research Centre was originally established because Niels Bohr wanted more time for reflection and less time teaching students at Copenhagen University. Bohr's wish was the beginning of Roskilde as a research and educational city. Today, Roskilde boasts numerous research institutions and a thriving student population.

A senior researcher at Risø:

- I was looking into writing a PhD on wind energy in Europe. Although both the UK and Denmark offer attractive research environments for wind energy, I opted for Roskilde. The opportunities for financing my PhD were slightly better there and that made a difference!
Gregor Giebel is a senior researcher in wind energy at the Risø research centre.

Roskilde is home to a university and several research centres

Roskilde University

The University was founded in 1972. The University is the daily work place for around 8,000 students, 700 researchers and lecturers, and 250 technical/administrative staff in the 50 buildings which comprise the campus. Environmental science, globalisation, communication and education are keywords in the university's research profile. Classical thoroughness and problem-oriented interdisciplinary approaches characterise research at Roskilde University (RUC).
