Childcare facilities
When can I have my child in day care?
Roskilde City has a childcare guarantee which means that you can have your child in care once he/she is 9 months old. The guarantee covers all of Roskilde but if you want a particular institution for your child, you may have to wait a little longer. Regardless of where you want your child in care, you have to put your child's name down at the Assignment Service.
Every month Roskilde City publishes a list of how many children are waiting for a place in each of the City´s six districts, and how old the latest enrolled child is. Contact
Pladsanvisningen for further information about childcare.
Schools
In Denmark there is a free school choice. As a parent you have the obligation to make sure that your child is being taught and receives education. You can choose a state school, a private school or you can have your child taught at home.
Choosing School in Roskilde
Roskilde has 18 schools that are run by the City - each in their own school district. If you are a parent, unless, you have special requirements, your child will automatically be enrolled in the school in your district. If you just have moved to Roskilde however, you have to enquire at your district school yourself. Contact Skole og Klub for further information.
Leisure
Cultural activities should be part of every child´s daily life. This is an objective that our kindergartens, schools and the after-school centres put into effect every day.
In their spare time, children have lots of opportunities for creative development, whether they are into singing and movement, absorption in sculpture and painting, or perhaps they aspire to be actors.
Roskilde Music School covers the field of music and painting. This continuation school has many other creative leisure activities as well, and the theatre group Lo Specchio gives classes for children and youngsters. Contact Kultur og Idræt for further information on cultural opportunities.
