About Roskilde
With 80.000 inhabitants Roskilde is one of the largest cities in Zealand. Roskilde has a high level of public services and a great variety of opportunities. Many factors contribute to the fact that Roskilde is a very popular place to live in: It is a city with beautiful green areas, a habour and cultural activities.
Roskilde is a city in itself with culture and a lot of possibilities. At the same time it is close to Copenhagen.
With its current growth and plans for further housing, the Municipality of Roskilde is expecting another 5.000 residents by 2016. Families with children are expected to make up 28 pct of every household.
The new town district Trekroner is a big contributor to the overall growth of the municipality. But, the area west of the city and other areas in this new large municipality are also expanding rapidly.
The Municipality of Roskilde is the largest municipality in Region Sjælland, and the third largest on Zealand.
It is only surpassed in size by Copenhagen and Frederiksberg. It is a municipal ambition to use this position as the centre of growth and connection between the two regions on Zealand; Hovedstadsregionen and Region Sjælland.
The Roskilde Cathedral
The Cathedral on the ridge in the very heart of Roskilde cuts a prominent figure in the town and in the local landscape.
The Cathedral was built down the centuries from 1175, so it represents a variety of architectural styles. In 1995, the Cathedral was added to UNESCO's list of the world's most precious cultural assets.
Close to Nature
Roskilde is surrounded by a very beautiful and varied landscape with short distances from the residential areas to the open lands made up of a mixture of arable land, natural resorts and areas for outdoor life.
This generates amenity value and provides great recreational opportunities for all types of activities; from tranquil walks to staggering sports activities. The result is a connected green and blue landscape that stretches around Roskilde and goes by the name of Den Grønne Ring (The Green Ring).
Regional Business Center
Roskilde is an attractive commercial city with great diversity and variety in stores and shops. With a strong surrounding area, Roskilde holds the position of the regional center for commerce and retail.
