Change of address

There are many things to remember when moving to a new location. This list is a guide to most things, and can hopefully help to ease your way through the system. You can also download the leaflet 'When you move to Roskilde Municipality. You must remember to report change of address within 5 days after moving to your new municipality.

If you move to - or within - Roskilde Municipality, you must send notice to Borgerservice.

You can register and send the removal notice electronically on the Internet. It requires NEM-ID. You can also end the notice to the municipality in a letter. Finally, you're welcome to visit Borgerservice - the staff will help you filling out the romoval notice.

If you move abroad, you need to notify the municipality you are moving from.

Change of doctor

When moving you can choose another doctor for free. You can do so at the same time as notifying the change of address. You can choose another doctor from a list by filling in a form electronically. You can also find a list of medical information and of doctors in Roskilde.

Post office

Did you notify the post office? When you change your address, PostDanmark will forward your mail directly to the new address, even if it is send to your old address. This applies to both permanent and temporary change of address. This service is free for you. It regards ordinary letters, newspapers, magazines but not packages. If you move abroad, PostDanmark can only send letter mail to the new address.

When you move, you have two options to notify Post Denmark about your address change. Please do so 5 days earlier than you would like to have mail forwarded to your new address. For many, it will be easiest to do so electronically via ePosthuset. For others by visiting the local post office and filling out a form. You will be asked to present identification, for example passport or driving license.

Order free moving postcards

PostDanmark has made moving postcards available for you when you move. Moving postcards can be sent to family, friends, acquaintances or to other connections when you want to inform about your address. Moving postcards are free and it's free to send them when they contain only the message of your new address.

Name on the door

Don't forget to put a name on the door right away. Plenty of mail is returned to sender shortly after people have moved to a new address, simply because there is no name on the door.

Tax

Your tax demand note must be changed in the case of significant changes in your finances. For example if you sell or buy property, get a longer or shorter drive to your workplace causing your tax deductions to change or in the case of changes in your salary.

If you are unsure whether it is necessary to change the tax demand note, you can create a sample calculation on the SKAT website. Here you can also change the tax demand note. You can also call on tel 72 22 18 18 or go to Borgerservice. You need to bring evidence of the changes in question and perhaps show your pay check. You can go to any municipality or the Tax Centre.

Roskilde Supply

Don't forget to check heat, water and electricity when you move. If the supplier is Roskilde Supply (Roskilde Forsyning), you can notify directly.

Kids and moving to a new place

Your children may need to change day care or school. At Roskilde Municipality's web pages about family life, you will find most of the information a family needs. This applies to childbirth, childcare, school enrollment and health grant schemes as well as counselling for children, adolescents and adults.

You will also find a self-service solution if you want to register your child for day care or kindergarten. This requires NEM-ID. In turn, it can all be arranged from your home. Once you have registered your child, you can keep track of your place on the waiting list.

Child benefit and child support

Remember that you need to apply again. Although you have received these grants in the former municipality, they are not paid out automatically.

To make use of self-service, you must have a NEM-ID.

Different rules concerning housing benefit applies depending on the type of housing you are moving into and how your situation is otherwise.
